BYOD Webfilter

In order to utilize the LosAlBYOD network, devices must install two security certificates. As of July, 2020, the second certificate must be reinstalled for non-chromebook devices (PCs, Macs, iOS, and Android).

Los Alamitos USD provides WiFi access to all students, staff, and approved guest. All traffic is monitored for Federal and State internet compliance and use is governed by the Acceptable Use Policy shown below. Application usage is also tracked. Click to view the BYOD Webfilter Policy

Directions for Installing the Webfilter Certificates:

For devices that previously connected to the LosAlBYOD network in spring of 2020:

You need to update the second certificate. Click to download your Updated Network Certificate & Follow the directions to install.

(Note: If you use a Chromebook with a GoLosAl.net or LosAl.org account, you do not need to update)

For devices that are new to the LosAlBYOD network and have NOT connected previously:

Select on your device type below and follow the associated directions. (Note: If you use a Chromebook with a GoLosAl.net or LosAl.org account your certificate will be installed automatically.)

Select your device for directions on installing the webfilter certificates:

Windows/PC

Step 1: Download the 1st PC Network Certificate and open it.

Step 2: Click on “Install Certificate”.

Step 3: Click the button to choose “Local Machine”, and then click “Next”.

Step 4: You may see a warning message. If you do, click Yes.

Step 5: Click on the button to choose “Place all certificates in the following store”. Then click “Browse…”

Step 6: Choose “Trusted Root Certification Authorities” then click “OK”.

Step 7: Click on “Next”.

Step 8: Click on “Finish”.

Step 9: Click “OK”.

Step 10: Download the 2nd PC Network Certificate and open it.

Step 11: You may see a warning message. If you do, click "Yes".

Step 12: Click on “Next”. Click “Finish” once it is done.

Mac

Step 1: Download the 1st Mac Network Certificate.

Step 2: Open the certificate file. In the “Keychain” dropdown, choose “System”.

Step 3: Enter the username and password you use to sign into your Mac (this assumes you have admin privileges for the mac).

Step 4: In the top right of your screen, click on the Spotlight icon (looks like a magnifying glass).

Step 5: Type in “Keychain Access” and hit enter.

Step 6: On the lefthand side, click on “System” then double click “p9u5fff5jsep9ucjkkft/Base64CA2025.cer”.

Step 7: Click on the dropdown arrow to the left of “Trust”. Change “When using this certificate” to “Always Trust”.

Step 8: Download the 2nd Mac Network Certificate & repeat the steps above. It should be named “*.securly” for step 6.

Android

iPad/iPhone

Step 1: Download the 1st iOS Network Certificate

Step 2: Tap “Install” on the upper right.

Step 3: You will get a warning message . Tap “Install” in the upper right.

Step 4: Tap “Install”.

Step 5: Tap “Done”.

Step 6: Open the “Settings” app. Tap on “General” on the left, then “About” on the right. Then tap on “Certificate Trust Settings”.

Step 7: Tap on the button to Enable Full Trust for Root Certificates.

Step 8: Tap “Continue”.

Step 9: Verify that the button is enabled (will be green).

Step 10: Download the 2nd iOS Network Certificate & repeat the steps above.

Chromebook

If you are logged into a chromebook with a @golosal.net or @losal.org account, you DO NOT need to install certificates. Proceed with accessing the internet through the LosalBYOD network.

Notice: The following steps are only for individuals that are unable to login to a chromebook with a @golosal.net or losal.org account, and will involve manually installing two certificates.

Step 1: Download the 1st Chromebook Network Certificate

Step 2: Download the 2nd Chromebook Network Certificate

Step 3: Open the browser, and in the upper-right corner click on the “3-dots” to access the menu. Then select the “Settings” option.

Step 4: Type “certificate” into the search bar at the top of the page. Then click on the option to “Manage certificates”.

Step 5: Click on the tab for “Authorities” and then click the link to “Import”.

Step 6: Select the “Downloads” section from the options on the left, and click on the first file that was downloaded (This is the 1st certificate). Then click the “Open” button.

Step 7: Check mark all 3 options for trust settings: Identifying websites, Identifying email users, and Identifying software makers. Then click “OK”.

Step 8: On the settings page for “Manage certificates”, click the "Import" link again.

Step 9: Select the “Downloads” section from the options on the left, and click on the second file that was downloaded (This is the 2nd certificate). Then click the “Open” button.

Step 10: Check mark all 3 options for trust settings: Identifying websites, Identifying email users, and Identifying software makers. Then click “OK”.
